Exploring Carlisle Bay, Barbados: Sea Turtles, Shipwrecks & Family Adventures πŸŒ΄πŸ‡§πŸ‡§

One of my favourite things about travelling is getting out and exploring beyond the resort. While I absolutely love relaxing by the pool or on a beautiful Caribbean beach, there’s something special about experiencing what a destination has to offer.

During our family vacation in Barbados, we spent a wonderful day exploring Carlisle Bay, and it was definitely one of the highlights of our trip!

From beautiful turquoise waters and soft sandy beaches to sea turtles and historic shipwrecks, Carlisle Bay offers a little something for everyone.

Discovering Carlisle Bay

Located along the southwestern coast of Barbados, near the capital city of Bridgetown, Carlisle Bay is known for its beautiful crescent-shaped beach, calm Caribbean waters, and incredible marine life.

It’s a popular destination for swimming, snorkelling, boat excursions, and simply spending a relaxing day at the beach.

One of the things that makes Carlisle Bay particularly special is the collection of shipwrecks resting beneath the surface. These wrecks have become home to a variety of tropical fish and other marine life, making the area a popular spot for underwater exploration.

And, of course, there’s the opportunity to see sea turtles!

Snorkelling With Sea Turtles and Exploring Shipwrecks 🐒

One of the highlights of our visit was heading out on a boat excursion to explore the waters of Carlisle Bay.

Scott, Kyle, and Ryan all had the opportunity to get into the water and snorkel among tropical fish, sea turtles, and several shipwrecks.

How amazing is that?

The clear Caribbean water makes this area a wonderful destination for snorkelling, with so much marine life to discover beneath the surface.

For anyone who enjoys exploring underwater, this is definitely an experience worth considering when visiting Barbados.

Now, as for me?

I stayed on the boat because I don’t swim! LOL!

But that certainly didn’t stop me from enjoying the experience.

I loved being out on the water, taking in the beautiful coastal views, and watching my family enjoy their underwater adventure.

And that’s something I always like to remind people about travel. You don’t necessarily have to participate in every activity to enjoy an excursion. Sometimes simply being there, experiencing the surroundings, and sharing those moments with your family is just as meaningful.

Enjoying the Beautiful Beaches of Carlisle Bay

After our time on the water, we also enjoyed exploring the beach and taking in the beautiful surroundings.

Carlisle Bay has everything you picture when you think of a Caribbean beach: soft sand, sparkling turquoise water, and beautiful coastal scenery.

The atmosphere was relaxed, making it a lovely place to spend time together as a family.

Whether you’re interested in swimming, relaxing on the sand, enjoying a boat excursion, or exploring the marine life, there are several ways to experience this beautiful part of Barbados.

A Family Travel Perspective: Everyone Can Enjoy an Adventure Differently

As a Certified Autism Travel Professional (CATP), an Autism Double-Checked travel professional, and a mom to an autistic adult son, I always look at travel experiences from a family perspective.

One of the things I’ve learned over the years is that everyone experiences travel differently.

Some family members might love being in the water and exploring, while others might prefer to stay on the boat or enjoy the beach.

And that’s perfectly okay!

Our visit to Carlisle Bay was a wonderful example of how we could enjoy the same excursion in different ways.

While Scott, Kyle, and Ryan were snorkelling, I was perfectly happy taking in the scenery from the boat.

For families travelling with autistic or neurodivergent children and adults, it’s also important to consider individual comfort levels, sensory preferences, and the flexibility of an excursion.

Boat rides, unfamiliar equipment, crowds, and being in the water can all be considerations when planning activities.

I always recommend asking questions about the excursion ahead of time, including how long you’ll be on the boat, whether participation in snorkelling is optional, and what accommodations may be available.

Not every excursion will be the right fit for every traveller, but finding experiences that work for your family can make all the difference.

Is Carlisle Bay Worth Visiting?

Absolutely!

If you’re planning a vacation to Barbados, I would definitely recommend considering Carlisle Bay as part of your itinerary.

It’s a beautiful location that combines relaxation, natural beauty, and opportunities for adventure.

For our family, it was another wonderful memory from our Barbados vacation, and I’m so glad we had the opportunity to experience it together.

And even though I didn’t get into the water, I still enjoyed every minute of being out on that beautiful Caribbean Sea!
